Portal!!!
"But there’s no sense crying over every mistake
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake
And the science gets done and you make a neat gun
For the people who are still alive"
I love Portal! Probably the most satisfying game I've playing in a long time. I haven't fallen in love with a game since Sons of Liberty.

The end of summer. . .
Here's a work in progress. Done as a quick study. Probably four hours of work from a photo. Hardly any likeness. Way hardly any likeness. Drawing problems abound. I know I know. . . get off my case. But I was just doing a colour study. Or course I tweaked and exaggerated. With these poorly designed blue stripes. No but where's there's one. . . there's more, right?
The other from the summer figure drawing. It's nice, but I'm losing my taste from nupastel. Too sticky.

sketchbook blunders for late July
Super busy recently. I actually should be doing working on the Cougar's engine right now but I've decided to update this blog. Lucky you! Starting with Church drawings. Top right is probably the nicest drawing I've ever done in my opinion. Though my opinion is easily swayed. As I have fallen in with the ruinous powers (nudge nudge)
So it appears that the forces of Chaos will become a permanent fixture here. Done on Friday the thirteenth. That web address on there I might visit some time. It was supposed to be a good cure all or something.
Part of an expirement. Ahh~
Church. Testimony meeting gets to draw fast. Unless they get wordy. Which the better drawings were probably the wordier people. And a nice braid.
So I was looking through my OLD drawings. Like the 1998 Japanimationesque drawings. I sure tried really hard. Anyway, I had all this scrap paper in there with like. . . one tiny drawing on it. So I took all that paper out and put in into my "draw on this paper" pile. So I was basically taking those tiny lame head and making them 'current'. It's cool because I knew what I was trying to do.
This head is darling! I don't think I meant to draw kids but I think that they look like them. And ruinous powers again.
Choas Gwen-chan. It is very unfortunate that GWEN comes out the day school starts. I'm so doomed this semester. I guess it's sisters of battleesque more than. . . bleh`
HH stuff. Flying headbutts. Bison. Ruinous powers.
Bear uzis and homer simpson(?).
I still love my Niji brush. Occasionally when geeking out I'll draw this kinda stuff. We got terminators this time.
More niji.
Even more Niji. . .and an AK!
Orks and orcs.
And an ork. Everday a bigger dork than yesterday.

ultramarines
As much as I'd love piles of dead Tyranids, I'm quite tired of this painting. It's taken me way to long. I've really got to do these simpler and faster. Besides, these marines (likeness is property of Games Workshop) look so pristine. This was done pixel-painterly. Someday soon I'll break out the oils again. I've been very low on supplies since the pleinair trips.

sketchbook stalemate: A month of Sundays
Haven't been drawing like I did in the past. Like minor temperature difference or something cause it to hard to draw. My ideas have been stagnant for a while. However; I'm pulling out of it. Something big definitely coming. Thank you for being patient.
I am however consistent on Sunday. Ward members.
Hands. All but one from memory. Can you guess which one?
more ward members
I thought I was a geek before. But it's apparent that I'm only getting geekier. When painting little dolls become more important than hanging out. . . that only means trouble. Space marines and a little chaos. You're probably going to see more 40k stuff.

anything except necrons
In words of Dn'D Greg, "Hey, quit biting my style!". You'd know if you knew. And if you knew there was two things to know. . .well, holy crap! Experimenting with analytic lighting(?) today. Strangely enough, this was a request. No. . . not the dune buggy. That was left my own devices. I could've picked anything. Except Necrons. I really wanted to put Necrons, but I decided that I'd stick to the facts.

old school approach: crystal fluxes
I keep looking at the above and saying. . .heck yeah~! and then below. . .
Watch out for the paradigm shift! Painted lineart is old school!
not my original character. Anyway, we were drawing like the turn of the century. And I decided to try an older approach. Except painting knowledge enhanced it. Fun, but not fantastic. It's strangely disappointing.

s-partan girl
another study from photo. block pencil technique. Though once it got huge it stop looking like that. Wery nice. Time? Should have finished this a couple days ago. Amazing how nothing keeps one busy, yes?
Aaanyway, if I don't get some eskimos, ninjas, or mecha on here soon the reality of this place will collapse. Man, I'm missing it. Not that I don't love doing studies, it's just the sketchbook is suffering in undernourishment. Mount up! We've got a lot of painting and or drawing to do!

in the woodsen
315x590 original sized - - pixel pushing
photoshop, hard pencil, no colour sampling
ref photo used
6-8 hours (?)
Dart! This surprised me. It was like Ray Charles shot eye beams at me.
It's a great tradition to paint people skipping around in the woods. The theme of this piece was to use the hard pencil. Which I'm liking more than gradated tools. Me thinks it stems from oekaki days. I have a horrible feeling that's going to make a violent come back. The other theme was warm or cool or die. Mostly dying. . . this took me more than a days study. Which is too long for taste. . . add salt for taste.

400m breaststoke taps an island and a plains and gains 6am first strike

Another study. Done in photoshop only using the hard pencil tool. Which I've decided rules over the paintbrush on a gold encrusted throne. Ref provided from DA

Saturday is a special day
"Saturday is pleinair day! Get your paint on!"
A huge track-hoe in the decimated land where the Geneva Steel plant once was. It was behind a chain link fence is surprisingly easy to paint through. The colours aren't as accurate as I want them to be, but I still think this piece is very successful.
An old truck out in Vineyard, Utah. Painted on site. Much closer than going out to Spring City or Wellsville. We're on a never ending hunt for old and also maybe abandoned things to paint. With good light, colour, and shadows of course.
Never thought I'd be caught painting flowers, particularly Irises. But, I had fun doing it and I might in the future do it again. Maybe. It was challenging to describe planes as the light changed. But as long as I stuck to the warm and cool colour combos, I'd make it through. The end.
Oh yeah, we're on a rampage!
