I painted this girl on an emulsion test from work. Photo paper is pretty cool because it doesn't buckle so bad. However; the paint will sluff off if you don't seal it.

I've kidnapped a scanner and decided it was time to start up the Daily Brains PZ again! I'll be kicking like the Falcoon of circa 2003! Hopefully I make it past a week. Get leady!!!

Unfinished Stuff

I make a serious effort to paint every single day. Sometimes I cannot, but I start right back up whenever I can. I mostly work evening shifts selling electronics and electronic accessories which makes finding time to paint more and more difficult to come by. I usually can only find one or two hours to work on something. Usually I'm so stressed out about going to work in a hour or so I don't have time to calm down and think of a good idea or polish an old one.

So, which leads me to this blog post. These are just a FEW of the things I found over the past six months that I've left unfinished. I cropped and made them a little more presentable. But, I can't help but feeling I ought to start finishing things. I've got this "habit" where I feel done with something just as I think it up or scribble it on paper. I don't know if I'm lazy but I'm for sure getting bored quickly of my own ideas.

Enough ranting,

The above is just a corner of a larger picture. I think I can get more success if I can stay out detailing a painting. Iadmire the techniques where the entire painting is worked on rather than piece by piece. Those techniques take a lot of discipline which I'm still trying to find.

This is looking way cooler than when I last saw it. I've got the biggest crush and skulls. I've got an even bigger crush on jack-o-lantern style glowing things.

Another frustration I have is getting the painting out of order. I'm putting "opaque" paint down before the drawing is even done. My hierarchy in my brain is scrambled. . . this is probably where my sloppiness comes from.
I like this one a lot. I started out a 50X50 pixel canvas and I enlarged it and started to tighten. I don't know why I never finished this one.

You know when you think you've got a good idea but you didn't plan ahead to make it succeed. The above is that! Again! Which only makes it. . . a kind of decent thumbnail painting.

Going back to my roots here. It seems if I use certain tools I automatically revert to my "anime" days. I'd rather refer to the "anime style" as an "anime canon". It's humurous how readily it is replused. I think people can "smell" imitation and shortcuts so maybe that's why. I've been told by so many artists about what style is or is not that I don't think it really exists. Like "graphic arts" and "jogging" don't exist.

Anyway, I'd like to address the above painting as an issue of scale I guess. I like the large eyes and baby-like proportions much the same way dolls are laid out. Dolls are formed as simplfied humans right? I espiecally like when on a doll there a zipper or a seam which is regular scale on a tiny doll. The hair is another example of scale. A whole paint stroke can't be the thickness of one hair but, on a doll it could be. I seem to remember in that Alla Prima book he was painting dolls. Perhaps for the same reasons above. I ought to read that book more. He's full of that kind of hard work and guts discipline.

Mostly Dumb Idea

This painting is another paint test. A paint test origination from a mostly dumb idea. The Zim's in Salt Lake is having a "we got pwned" sale so, I bought a musician load of paint from them. I bought lots of strange, great, and spacious colours that'd no right-standing artist would usually buy. I think it's going to go until they are closed forever end of Rocktober.

Alpha Legion is my legion as it is by far my favorite of the traitor legions. My first and only Warhammer army is CSM Alpha Legion. Their doctrines include stealth, trickery, spies, and striking from all sides at once. They employ any means to gain victory.

Night Lords

The Night Lords are near my favorite traitor legion. Utilizing speed and terror tactics they strike quickly without mercy. Never been too big of a fan of the bat-winged helmets but they've started to grow on me. I also it interesting they ally themselves with none on the chaos gods. Instead they follow their own interests wreaking havoc across the Imperium.

Emperor's Children Noise Marine dedicated to the Chaos god Slaanesh. I really didn't quite capture the concept of what a noise marine is. Just isn't skull shattering loud enough. This painting has been tough. Decided to end it early to start other projects.

Death Guard 2

I wasn't quite satisfied with the other plague marine so I did another one. This one was inspired Silent Hill cockroach miner. Although, there is a mini that looks just like this.

Death Guard

When I first decided to choose the ruinous powers over the guardsman, I considered a Nurgle army. There was a great appeal to force that would lumber forward under massive gunfire and could not be stopped. Plague marines are deathless, still rotting in their armour, shrug off the worst of wounds with ease. All are welcome to join the jovial ranks of Grandfather Nurgle. Perhaps I just wasn't ready for all the conversions.

World Eater

However; if you're going to side with a chaos god. . . pick Khorne. He's brutal god of death, battle, and blood. Unlike the other chaos gods, he has his own code of honour. No stealth, trickery, sorcery, or even firepower compares to the grinding force of the chainaxe. Few things satisfy a chaos enthusist more than a land raider dumping ten berzerkers onto doomed foe. There are so many attacks in the assault that I have to roll an entire box of dice and them some.

Oh, Bolt Thrower lieks these guys too. Almost as much as they liek mudkips.

This is what happens when you "stay the course". What leads me to this conclusion? When you say to me, "maybe you ought to finish this. You know? Clean it up?" it's too likely I will. Tell me to paint over something, I probably will. I can't believe this painting used to look like this!

My inspiration for this and other painting "theory": Kawa Yoo. Something about the painting under the painting is very intriguing. I'm fascinated with burying a picture with a picture. And then burying that picture with another picture.

I was going to the UVSC library to get rent some of those gnomish-man deeveedees. But when I got there I was surprised to see that the library, once full of book and wideos, was emptied. It was at that moment I knew that it was time to bid farewell to a familiar stomping ground and grow up a little bit more.
